Subwoofer enclosures info.

I have just finished installing a single 12" DVC Pioneer sub in my C32 just to help out the bose system which lacks the bass....

When i was done i finished with a SEALED enclosure and the bass was there but nothing what i was used to in my previous vehicles where i had upgraded the sound. I was lucky enough to have another box laying around but this one PORTED, and WOW! what a difference this made the bass is over-powering now and have had to turn the gains down...

Just thought i would share this tip with anyone looking into upgrading the bass in their cars.... Rest of my system is stock bose.

yeah i prefer the more "solid" bass of a sealed enclosure but it was just not coming through to the cabin ? strange anyway....

What kind of subwoofer did you have? Are you sure it was "rear-firing". Also, different subs are built for different types of boxes i.e. sealed, porter, vented, bandpass, and also must have the correct air volume.

Like many I am somewhat disappointed with the bass response in the Bose system in my '05 S500 - principally the performance of the sub. I don't want it louder; I would like a bass response that is much more taut - not the overly boomy, loose response I have.

The best bass I have heard in a Bose system was in my 2000 Audi A6 2.7T. Possibly like your S4 (I'm not familiar with the '05), it used two 8" ported subs, one on each side of the trunk.

I drive with the windows up, and I'm not looking to cruise to attract the girls with my marvelous overpowered stereo. I just want good, taut bass and I don't want to replace my system entirely.

Do you have any suggestions (preferably suitable for a family publication )?

How much space do you want to give up? Do you want to go custom or standard? JL stealth box would be perfect, but they don't make it for your car......yet...

I prefer standard, and don't want to give up much space (I will also want ice water in Hell and a winning lottery ticket before I get there). Will consider other options, but must have most of my trunk floor space (can give some up under the rear deck).

Went to some links on the Stealth box; looks interesting.

JL Audio's new shallow mount woofer will open up a huge amount of options for your installers when it ever comes out

BTW, I am winning that lottery ticket first. The nice thing though, about going to hell, is all of my friends will be there.
