it really depends on what quality you expect. honestly, jbondox is right no the money... ading a sub is the first and best thing you can do since most modern (even luxury) vehicles either have inadequate or nonexistant bass response. personally i agree that 10" sub is the minimum to get acceptable bass response.
as for the mid/high speakers, changing them can make all the difference in the world. the ideal system can actually be quite close to a minimal system: change out the front speakers for a really nice set of component speakers (6" with seperate tweeters.. gte the best you can afford) and add a 10" sub in the back. run the whole thing off of a 3 or 4 channel amplifier. you can leave the back speakers disconnected or upgrade to a 5 channel and use them for rear fill but keep them dialed well down... you should only barely be able to hear them. this basic configuration has been used for some of the best sounding systems.

Whats your budget? How crazy do you want to go? Or how indiscreet do you want to go. You have 6 1/2 in the front doors and 5 1/4 in the rear. Don't totally discount the rears, yes they are for filler but a decent set of rears will complete your setup. If you're on a budget would do JL or Alpine with a 4 channel amp for the speakers, a JL or Alpine sub and Alpine sub amp.
Or go nuts and custom, audison hertz, 3 ways, subs, all custom

[QUOTE=ronce;2281196]Is this including installation and wires? do you already have an amp and an enclosure for the subs? Because an amp, wiring, and a custom enclosure can eat up all of that allotment of money.

Alpine Amp = 299 - 399
JL Wiring Kit = 149.00
2 - 3 Hours installation = 160 - 240
Custom box = 4-6 Hours = 320-500
Premade (Square) enclosure - 100 - 150.
So, yes, depending on how you do it, you would be right aroun 1K.

[QUOTE=ldangeli;2285230]The way he described the 12W6 as plural, I was thinking PDX1.1000 ($799.99) But i can get you this fine chrome covered Audiobahn amp , and comes with flames also, for $200... Just kidding don't stone me...
