This happened to me frequently in my '05 E class. It was usually ok next time I got in the car. But a little annoying.

What year and model? Can you see the ESN (Electronic serial number 12 digits) on the screen? This would mean that the MOST or D2B firber optic is working between the receiver and the head unit. Can you hear the "Weather/Emergency" channel 184? Your antenna might be disconnected or have a pinched or damaged wire or wires from the antenna to the receiver. Corrosion on the antenna or the connections can be a problem.

Are you in North America? The eliptical orbit satellites do not send the signal to the rest of the world. In certain locations and at certain times the signal is not very strong (the satellites are constantly moving) and your instant location might be "in the dark".

Leave the door open for one minute? That resets the radio? I have never read that in any of he service data. Did they tell you wear a tin-foil hat too? I think Sirius phone support will tell you anything to get you off the phone so they can enjoy another Molson's.

Little known fact: Howie Mandel played the voice Gizmo in the 1984 film Gremlins.

Now any film that also has Phoebe Cates has my full attention.

Of course, as whoover knows (but likes to pull one's leg) - it resets the fiber optic bus. I don't know if the door has to remain open, but opening it shuts down the head unit in at least some cars; then waiting a minute allows the bus to clear, and it resets when power is applied again.

I like his explanation better, though.
