W211 - removing the CD Changer -- how?

I am going to try a self-install of the Denison Gateway 500. It shouldn't be that hard if I can get access to the rear of the in-dash CD Changer in my 2005 E55 wagon.

I was hopeful that you just unscrewed the two screws on the side of the front of the changer and pull.

Not happening.

Anyone have instructions or service manual pages or pictures or suggestions?

I hate to just attack the dash without some ideas.

Thanks,

Tom

Just from memory, remove the ash tray internals, remove the gear stick cover, remove the rest of the ash tray (should be without screws, or did it have two) and then remove the wires and fibre from the CDC and remove two screws. I assume you did it up to this point. It should come out now.

If you take the head unit in addition, that would have two screws from the bottom upwards.

I've seen a post with figures (could be another forum though), in case you want to search.

Heck I'm stuck with how to get the ash tray unit out. No screws, but not obvious (to me) how it comes out.

Not clear from this figure and I didn't want to go to check from my car but it must be the plastic clips at the front, towards the gear stick, one on each side, attaching from the bottom front, use screwdriver to detach each clip.

OK, positive progress. Gentle pressure with a small screwdriver.

A very positive note -- the MOST connector is right under the CD changer, behind the ash tray. Looks like I can do the entire install by just removing the ash tray!

I'll take lots of pics and start a detailed thread on the install, particularly if it turns out to be as simple as I hope.

More tomorrow when it is cooler. I can really only work on it first thing in the morning.

I know this is an old post. But were you ever able to get it out?

My 02 w210 cd changer was out of the boot for more than year. Last week I cleaned it with air duster and put it back the CD-changer to my beloved e430. Some of the tracks on couple of old CDs were getting stuck or repeating the songs. Frustrated. Replaced all the CDs with 6 new CDs from my collection. Now, damn thing says "no magazine" . Thought to contact CD changer repair places. Then about an hour ago I check at my dependable MB-world community. Read SteveAustin tricks from early 2012. Hah.....8 year-old 'Fonzi scheme with screwdriver butt still works today. took 1 minute.
