This is my first time I use this forum. I thank in advance to anybody who can help.
I live now in US and I plan to buy next month a 2008 ML320CDI here, but somebody told my that maybe the DVD navigation system )Comand MCSII?) will not work in Europe, where I will move in 2009, because this car uses Comand APS in EU.
Does anybody know if this is true and so if it is easy to retrofit it and a idea how much can cost to update the system and make it working in EU.

Would the ML have Comand, option code 530 for the US? The European Comand APS would be option code 527 and the part numbers are different.
But you might search for European delivery posts. I have a feeling that owners of some cars had the European MAP DVD when driving in Europe and then of course would have the US system when the car was delivered. I don't understand why the part numbers would be different then, unless they had a different SW that would be updated when the car leaves Europe or arrives to the states.

The US comand (MCS-II) system will not work in Europe. Its completely different, there are no map disks available and also the radio frequency spacing is different.
However, buying a US ML is significantly cheaper than buying one in the EU - and the cost of a used/refurb COMAND system is not too bad here in Europe.
I beleive the connectors are all the same - but not checked (I am in Europe).
You can see how to remove it at www.mercupgrades.com - swopover is about 10 minutes !!
Whatever you do, get the MHI phone system. In various places in Europe (i.e UK) it is illegal to use a mobile whilst driving, must be hands free - and that is hard/expensive to retrofit. Buy the US bluetooth cradle, it will probably work with a European phone.

[edit, US ML comand is made by Alpine, the nav unit is optional, and it plays MP3, EU Comand for A/b/C/CLK/ML/GL/R is made by becker. nav is integral and doesnt play MP3 in the head unit. Whole of Europe is on 1 disk, and www.comandonline.co.uk is probably the cheapest place to buy maps disks, iPod kits and bluetooth cradles if you are in UK).
