Exclamation EURO Comand Switching Language from German to English

Hello, I just got German 03 CLK , unfortunately the COMAND system is in German and I don't sprechen. I tried looking for some way to switch the language to English, but it seems that there is no simple way of doing it.

Could someone help me out with this problem? Right now, I'm driving without any idea of what the car is telling me.

Is this a W209 model?

Do you have the instrument cluster menu in English?

For a W209 you can find the Euro on-line user manual, and can switch between English and German language (I mean the web user manual language). I understood it would change the Comand language from the IC menu too (but did not read in detail).

Thanks, for the link. Checked the manual in English, but didn't find references to switching system language.

Hit the 'SYS' key

In there is a menu called 'xxxxxxxsprache' (cant remember exactly what its called)

Click on that, and then select english from there

You need the nav disk in when you do this

Thanks everyone, will try it tomorrow morning. (I don't have the nav disk, but maybe it'll do it without).

Doesn't hurt trying but if Richard says the disc needs to be in, I would bet on that option. Perhaps the different language files are on the disc and loaded only one at a time.

Tried Richard's solution and it worked - WITHOUT the DISC. Yay

Oops - sorry Diesel Benz - clearly the disc doesnt always need to be there - only when i've tried it!!

I think the language files are on the disk (they are certainly not on the software update disk, and it make sense that they are on the map disk), and previously had found the language change only worked if there was a disc loaded.

Glad to see it worked for you though

Richard

Cannot always win, when did I win last time actually

I'd still bet on Richard next time instead of doing some lottery. Perhaps English is for some odd reason a default language loaded just in case.

Anyway, as always, great that the issue was solved.

Well, I think Richard was right because only the COMAND is in English. The other displays are still in German (on the speed panel). Probably will need to get the disc to get everything in english... Anyway, at least I can use the phone.

You need to go into the comand and set the language to display dependent. Then go into the display, as shown in the manual link posted, and set your language to english there. Now both will display the same language and anytime you want to change you will only have to change the display.

On a car with no Navi, the IC language can be selected from the IC menu. The above makes sense but wouldn't it then be possible to change the IC language to English from the IC even if the setting was not "dependent"?

The IC language cannot be from the CD/DVD while it could come for the Navi.

Anyway, if the Navi now is English, the above guide should solve the issue best.

Correct. You can change it in the IC per the manual instructions. In the end that would accomplish the same.
