Noise when using Ipod Charger

I have an IPOD and use the Aux inpt to listen to music. I have the IPOD car charger but when I plug it in and use the IPOD I get a low whine through the speakers. If I disconnect the charger the noise goes away.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It is likely alternator whine transmitted through your cigarette lighter. The sources of such a whine can be numerous, but a common one is inadequate grounding of the engine to the chassis (often because of corroded grounding straps).

If it's corrosion then sand the area where the grounding is and use some copper paste when you're remounting the grounding strap to the chassis.

Thanks

Thanks for the input. I will check the ground and any evidence of Corrosion but the car is new. Although, the main ground fron the engine to the chassie may be loose.

Have a great holiday.

I had a horrible hum on mine from day one. I think it is a ground loop problem in the MB audio system. Try a ground loop isolator (Radio Shack sells one, there may be other sources)

ToonArmy,

Thanks for your additional suggestion. A line isolation transformer (ground loop isolator) could help. His problem doesn't occur unless he is charging the iPod, so I don't believe it's a radio grounding problem as much as chassis. But, despite their bulk and (possibly) having to make a number of connections, to adapt the 3.5mm stereo plugs used on the iPod and the Aux input, to the RCA jacks commonly used on the transformers, it could work.
