I'm interested in hard wiring my V1 and looking into a laser jammer for my E-550 but a reputable MB independent told me that the new cars were so sensitive to changes electronically that I was likely to cause malfunction errors, etc. if I started wiring things into the system.

Also, the manual says you shouldn't use radio receivers w/o an external antenna. If I use a handheld CB or scanner w/o an outside antenna will this cause a problem despite the warning? Are there wireless antennas? I don't want to poke holes or run wires out the window.

Are the new cars really this sensitive? I don't want to do something that will cause a cascade of events I will regret with a new car.

I find it odd that any of these devices are legal, even in the US. Anyway, a lot of talks at the W221 forum where the issue is V1 or similar getting disturbed by the Distronic radar. Another issue with W221 is that it has IR reflecting glasses, attenuating the radar signals and the V1 sensitivity.

A scanner should be a receiver only, some local oscillator leakage but that would be nothing. What is the output power of the CB radio? Unlikely an issue still, the user manual should state limits for RF power for devices at different operating frequencies.

i have a V-1 that ive hardwired into my 03 e500 (relatively the same car - if anything the newer ones are more reliable electronically)

ive been using it for a few months now with no problems.

i also will be going the jammer route soon. I know of a few board members who have jammers installed (specifically the K-40 system and the Blinder M-25). Neither one of them have reported any sort of electronical problems that resulted from them (not to the board's knowledge anyway)

It all comes down to the experience, and more importantly the carefulness of the installer. Just make sure you are tapping the right wires at the right places. Also make sure you are crimping wires (instead of just twisting them together and covering with electrical tape), and soldier wires together (when you can) instead of crimping them, etc... bottom line, have it done right, and you should be fine.

good luck!

Diesel Benz is correct about Distronic interference. However, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w221...ight=distronic for a solution - and also a very nicely hidden detector.
