Sounds simple, right?
Anyone have knowlege in this area and think its possible?

i'm guessing you need a (low-level) audio source for a aftermarket amp, maybe subs?
if that's the case just use a RCA line converter.
that is what i have in my w209 clk500. with 2 10's @ 800 watts RMS each.
I did all the work myself, so just ask if u need anymore info.

Let me explain, getting a low level signal that is not already screwed up by the internal EQ features of the amp compensating for crappy speakers and bad speaker placement is hard. mod'ing the amp won't do much, I have already tried that, it stays in the digital realm until it hits the output stage which goes to the vehicles speakers. throwing a high level to low level converter is not the way. you still have signal loss with them which is inherent with the transformer based LOC's and the ones that just toss resistors in line are a joke and will fail. And when they fail they usually take something with it, be it an amp or the headunit.
There are summing networks from JL Audio that can sum the high level signals together and with a tuning CD can pretty much adjust the signal back to a flat unaltered usable signal. however once you tune it to a certain volume on the factory audio, it is for that level. you will need to use their volume knob for volume adjustments. so when you turn the vehicle off or turn the volume down on the factory radio, it will need to be reset for the new curve.
If it is just for subs and you are not really looking for sound quality then a simple way would be the LOC.

My goal is to get a good quality analog signal for my amp, and keep it simple and everything working like normal and be done with it, no additional volume knobs to deal with. I've looked into the JL unit you're talking about but the idea of going from line level to a preout just seems so so. To me it's like starting with a MP3 and making it go to back WAV and saying this is as good as it sounds originally in WAV form.
