Question Comand GPS Antenna Wire and Interface with V60 Phone

I am getting ready to install a Comand 2.0 and a V60 Phone kit in my 2000 E320 4 Matic Wagon.

I need to source a GPS Antenna wire with the correct "Hirosi" Plug -

Also, I'm trying to figure out where the other end of the antenna wire would interface to?

There is a junction box or splitter located behind the upper roof outer trim panel on the driver's side above the Left Rear Window - it has a coax wire going to it and it has the provision for another wire.

Is this for the GPS or for the Cell phone?

I really do not want to go with another GPS antenna - I would like to use the factory one.

I am also looking for a source on a V60 cell phone kit for this car - (other than the dealer - anyone out there have one?)

I already have the phone.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Best Regards!
Tom

This is general information gleaned from personal experience and talking with others, and watching MBenzNL work on numerous cars. So you shouldn't consider it necessarily correct.

The rooftop antennas generally run the cables in this fashion: cellular on the left side, navigation/GPS on the right side. This is because the PSE is on the left side of the car, and the antenna wire runs on the right side gutter to the COMAND. I'm not sure if the Teleaid GPS is in the actual Teleaid box, but this is also on the left side.

US-spec cars are usually prewired for the phones, but COMAND uses a different harness. Therefore, the car will generally not have a pre-installed splitter for the GPS antenna, but will have a pre-installed splitter for the phone (Teleaid uses both the phone and GPS side of the antenna as well).

The cellular cables use a WICLIC connector. This is a flange-locking connector. The GPS antennas (except for the back of the COMAND) use an FME connector. This is a threaded connector. COMAND uses an HRS-GT5 connector (manufactured by Hirose).

The HRS-GT5 to FME cable (from COMAND to GPS splitter) is part of the wiring harness installed in the car for COMAND. To get this wire separately is a little more difficult.

Assuming you have the V60 phone actually from Mercedes, the PSE is pretty cheap. Even from the dealer! You may also need a completer kit. With that, it should plug in pretty easily. The antenna wire will run into the splitter.

Hope that helps.

GPS Antenna

On Your W210 Wagon The Antenna cable For the Gps Is On The Left/Rear (Drivers Side) To Locate it you must remove the Spare tire cover, D Pillar cover,And Drop the headliner down to access the coax cable to Install the Spliter for the comand/GPS.. Its There...It Is Marked With Tape Where the connection is!
As Steve Mbenz Did my W210 Wagon..Good Luck On the Install
BTW the Cable to the Gps antenna is The Hardest part of the install...

I see you already forgot about the 2DIN inner dash piece?!?!

In the W210 wagon the connector coming from the roofmounted GPS/cellphone antenna going to the teleaid cable sits on the driverside of the car (leftside) at the middle of the top of the rear side window...the connector is covered with velver tape and the holes for the OEM MB splitter are already present.

Question GPS Splitter

Ok, I found a splitter in the outter roof trim panel above the left rear window (above the spare tire compartment) - it is a 3 way connector with 2 cables connected to it and has 1 extra open position that you could screw in another coax cable. Is this the GPS splitter or is this the phone antenna splitter? Also, where did you guys get a GPS cable wit the correct connectors on it?

I might as well bump this post up as I am also curios.

Steve (MBenzNL), is the GPS splitter for the CLK Coupe (US Version, previously no COMAND but has Tele-Aid) also on the left side? How do I go about in getting to it? I was having a difficult time taking the wall upholstery/carpet off in the trunk. Also, as previously asked, where do I get the cable to wire from the trunk to the COMAND? Thanks a lot

Umm, there's some CONFUSION here. Please read the previous posts again!

I believe there's no GPS SPLITTER pre-installed. You need to install it yourself. Steve posted that above. There's a connection marked with tape in the W210 where you can install the splitter.

There's a CELLULAR PHONE antenna splitter preinstalled, because US-spec cars come pre-wired for cellular phones.

GPS wire goes to the right, cellular wire goes to the left (except in the W210 wagon apparently). Unless my memory is bad, but I thought it was my CLK where the GPS cable was going down the right side.

Ok, I'll check for the connection with the tape on it - where can I buy the correct splitter and a cable with the correct connectors?

You can buy the splitter direct from your MB dealership (all models use a 210 numbered GPS splitter)...they also have the GPS cable from splitter to the front (order one from the W203 sedan...that one comes with the proper connectors at both sides). edit: MBUSA only had 12 of these GPS cables in the entire US (I went there recently to order 10) and they sell them for twice the price (58USD excl. VAT) as our dutch dealership does...needless to say I had 10 cables flewn in from NL.

The W208 CLK has the connection for the GPS cable (and thus possible splitter) at the right side...the W210 wagon is on the left side.

greetingz,

greetingz,
Thank you Steve for the info. I'm having trouble getting the wall upholstery/carpet on the right side (looking at the car from the back) off. How do I take that part off so I can get to the splitter? Thanks....

Question Need correct part numbers for the GPS antenna cable and splitter

Does anyone know the correct part numbers for the GPS antenna cable and splitter? I understand that the cable I need comes from a W203 Sedan, and the splitter should be from a W210 - please advise - thanks!
