Question COMAND & radio code

I bought my 2001 E320 as pre-owned and it was originally equipped with COMAND/NAV. Under CPO warranty the unit was replaced but I did not get a radio code card and none came with the car when I bought it.

I called the dealer and the VMI does not show any radio codes on the VMI. The service writer was stumped and said he's look into it. Should I have had a code (old) and should I have gotten one with the new unit? I do not need it right now, but I'm curious after reading so many posts about these.

Thank you in advance,

MM

I thought COMAND units never had the security code. Better wait for a second opinion from someone who has had a similar Comand unit. My W221 certainly does not have the code but the code was dropped also from simpler head units (that are anyway also mechanically more integrated to the cluster and not that easy to steal and easy to sell as they only fit to a specific MB models).

Odd if your service writer expected the unit having a code.

COMANDs do not use a code, for the reason provided by Diesel Benz. COMANDs are pretty much unique to Mercedes, and are sometimes limited to certain models. That's why your dealer could not find the code.

I had the same experience with my '00 when I tried to get the code from my dealer before I added an early iPod integration. He searched for 2 days, and couldn't get a code, and finally found out they don't use one.
