alterative to factory CD changer??? please read
while taking delivery on my CLK last week, the guy at the dealer told me that there was an aftermarket CD changer that integrates flawlessly with our MB stereo. He wouldn't tell me what brand though, but i am sure he is for real. Does anyone know what company makes this mystical cd changer? i truly do not see the justice in paying 800$ to my dealer for a 250$ changer. He mentioned that the headunit and stereo were BOSE..

The CD changer you are looking for is by Alpine. It can interface with a special adapter. The factory changer is made by Alpine but has a special plug on the end. That's why you need the adapter.

Adding a cd changer-non MB
There is one model Alpine changer sold by any car stereo dealer who carries Alpine, and by some who don't. Peropheral and several othe makers of adapter interfaces allow connection. There are also interfaces that allow connecting a Panasonic CD changer. P.

That depends on your cars model year.
You may find an Alpine changer with an adapter that fits with radios up to and including 1998. Starting with model year 99 the MB radios connect only through fiber optic cables to the changer and there you have two choices, the original MB changer or the Becker 2662.
