Radio swap from 1999 E320 to 2000 E320

Let me guess, it won't work? I ask because I bought an Alpine radio from a 1999 E320 to replace the dead Becker in my 2000 E320. The Alpine works great, but doesn't turn on and off automatically.

My hypothesis is that the '99 used discrete wires for power and the 2000 uses the canbus.

Yes, 2000 is the first year of the "facelift" W210s and they are very different cars from the older ones.

Thanks for the response. I'll be sure to get a 2000 or later radio as a replacement.

But if you wire the switched power from the cigarette lighter the the correct pin at the radio, you can at least get the older radio power on and off automatically.
