PAC Steering Wheel Interface for aftermarket HU
This is just an FYI e-mail I received from PAC's tech support regarding currently unsupported steering wheel interfaces for certain MB models.
Basically, if there isn't a current interface for your vehicle and you're in SoCal, you can loan your car to them for the greater good.
The list of currently supported vehicles is listed here:
http://www.pac-audio.com/products/pr...el%20Interface
I'm currently trying to get more details, but this is the e-mail the tech guy sent from PAC-audio.
If someone else knows of some other interfaces that work with a 2005 CLK 320, please let me know.

Unfortunately we don’t have a CAN interface that will work on that model due to the availability of the car to do the research on. The interfaces we manufacture for them are on a volunteer basis, so getting one in here from an end user isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Any domestic vehicles, we usually are able to go to the dealership lots or rent a vehicle. However, European luxury cars, high end automobiles, etc. are much harder to get ahold of. On a Mercedes, the best thing to do is just check our website compatibility every 6 weeks. Once we get the info we need, we usually have the part available the same day we get the vehicle in.
If you know anyone in the So. Cal. area that can bring a car into us, we’ll be able to do the research on the CAN data wire, and we will give them all the parts for the install once we are finished collecting all the data.
Thanks!

More info from PAC:
About how much time would it take and where exactly are you located?
You would need to make an appt with our Engineering Dept. attn. Sam, and you would need to drop the car off around 9am and it would take up until around 3-4pm (Their office is located in Santa Ana)
Would you need them to have an aftermarket unit already installed?
No, but we do need the factory radio to do some tests on.
And if you'd like to e-mail Rich directly, Rich Jazmin [rich.jazmin@pac-audio.com]

That is awesome. My only questions are:
1. What brands of aftermarket headunits will it support?
2. When will it be available for purchase?

Basically the way the device works is it acts as a front-end controller for the PAC_SWI on the CLK. (e.g it converts the steering wheel CAN protocol to the protocol on the SWI). So any radio that is compatible with the SWI piece will work. Right now we have a few available until our full production begins around May.
