Universal Multimedia Interface - Maps update?

Hello everybody,
I have installed a UMI kit on my C200 W204 a couple months ago.
It turned out that the kit was with the dealer (in UK) for some time, so the NAVI maps were not the latest version, so after a long struggle I got the update file.

It is a file named 0003BE41.umi , some 24 Mbytes long but I have no idea how to install it...

I tried copying it on a USB stick and connecting the stick to the USB input of the UMI, but nothing...

There are no instructions on the UMI's manual, or any option in the UMI menu.

Any ideas?

Thanx,
Pete

24 Mbytes cannot be any map update anyway. Probably some navi algorithm or other UMI features updated.

Doesn't your user guide explain how the map update should be performed from a USB memory? You could try the same.

Thanks, I thought the same for the size of the file. Nevertheless I cannot rule out the possibility that there is some software function which can add only the new information to the existing one.

There is absolutely no reference to the update procedure in the UMI manual. That's why I am posting the same question to various MB forums in Europe, no luck so far though...

I saw on another thread in the UK site, where a number of individuals were trying to get updated maps and to no avail. That is another reason why i am glad, I did not purchase the UMI upgrade.

It seems the update is out.

Some German owners have already purchased it and installed it from a USB stick.

Nothing has officially arrived in Greece yet however...

This is interesting, it took really long to have the first real map updates available. Do you know if an update now requires a VIN dependent password like latest nav DVDs do? I don't understand why Navteq/MB did not do this earlier, specifically for HDD based navi devices.

I have no idea really...

The guy in the German forum does not provide such details. He claims that the whole software has changed and that the UMI turns into the new version, Navigation 20.

I have already sent a mail to a MB distributor in Germany requesting the USB stick, but I have not received anything yet.

I suppose more information will be made available sooner or later...

Thanks, from the link I can see it really is a full change.

Is there any word on when an update will be ready for North America, Canada and the US specifically?
