E320 GPS (Euro Maps in a US Spec 2004 W211 with US Spec COMAND)
OK, I have poked around these forums trying to find an answer but to no avail.
Let me first start off with a few things about me. I just got my wife a used E320 Wagon in preparation for our relocation to Naples, Italy in June. Very nice vehicle and meets all of our needs (and I hope it is in 1 piece after my 2 year tour there!)
Anyways I am running into difficulty locating the GPS maps for Europe for the in dash GPS. I have looked high and low (including the navteq wesbsite mentioned in other threads) and I have been unable to locate the disc. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have just a touch over a month left here in the states to get this done.
Regards and thanks in advance.

Be sure you get the correct DVD for an E-class.

The navi processor part should be the same, if I remember right but the head unit is different from Euro models.

Well I think I am hosed...
comandonline was kind enough to send me an older european disc to try it out... it loaded up but no maps showed on the screen. Was version 5.1 part number A211 827 93 59 Navteq was the manufacturer.
It looked like it would work... then no maps.

Well now I am eating my words. In despair I reinserted the disc and all of the sudden I had maps... and a fully function navigation system!
Although the version is 5.1 and a lot of the roads were not on it, it worked! So hopefully now I can just get my hands on the latest version and hopefully some of them roads will be there now.
So for the record...
I have a 2004 E320 Wagon, US Spec with a US Comand... with european map disc functioning properly. Pretty much everywhere I turned most people said it would not work... but yay it did! I will post a picture of it tomorrow.. I am even more excited to have my nice comfy ride now.

Thank you for that information as well as your persistence, gunsie. I am sure it will interest a LOT of folks. Perhaps you'd like to change the title of the original post (if you can) so more folks will see the solution.

Euro Maps in a US Spec 2004 W211 with US Spec COMAND
Greetings all... I had another thread with my issues and results, I was asked to re-title it so it was clearer and would be more specific to those seeking answers... I could not edit my original post so here is just the facts of my journey.
I purchased a 2004 E320 wagon just before I was transferred from San Francisco, CA to Naples Italy.
I was trying to find out where I could get my hands on a euro disc. Everything I read though and for the most part was told (not just here on these forums) was that it would not work due to an incompatibility in the map data and the head units.
The people at comandonline.com were kind enough to send me slightly dated discs (as a loaner) to test it out first hand... after several months of seeking results when I could (I am active duty military and deployed frequently) I finally got the disc over here and popped it in the drive. It looked promising as I got the progress bars on the COMAND screen but alas it did not produce the maps. I left it in for several hours and drove around just hoping it would suddenly work... but it did not, I had the GPS working though and it was hitting multiple satellites.
I removed the disc and prepared it for return to comandonline.. everything about it seem like it should have worked though. The US disc I pulled out of it was a Harman Becker disc.. the manufacturer off the Euro disc was NAVTEQ which is what I understood was what was needed for my COMAND. So I gave it one more try, I put the disc back in and the all of the sudden the screen came alive with my local town. I drove around for a bit and tried the POIS and the other functions.. everything works just as it should.
So just a word of encouragement to those seeking to do what I did.. IT WORKED, at least in my W211.
Thanks to those along the way who pointed me in this direction and that... It helped me learn quite a bit about the system and what should work!

P.S.
AFAIK the pre MY09 E-class COMAND/NAVI is able to play EURO disks. At least the capability was offered to people under the ED program to rent disks from MB during their stay.
