Nav-TV mentioned that aftermarket antennas work as well, if not better, than the MB TV tuner antennas. You could try inquiring with him.

.............thanks. I called today and it turned out DC was covered in snow, so noone there to really help me. I will call back tomorrow. I have thought about using aftermarket antenna, but the "plu in" on the MB TV tunner for the antenna is unusual and will not receive most of the aftermarket 4 channel diversity antennas that I know. These have 1/8 phono type plugs.

The antenna plug in on the TV tuner uses wicklick (or something like that) connectors...I tested a TV tuner today (in LA) using GPS/comand extension cables and it actually received TV signals...

greetingz,
Hey Steve

Are you still in LA. We're waiting for the Tour to hit the Bay Area.

Let us know when you expect to arrive so we can watch you work your magic.

Steve,

I am stuck on a project because I forgot to purchhase a TV antenna for the Comand/TV tunner I'm working on. I need a TV tunner ASAP. Can you direct me to what pices you used and how I can get them. I frankly have not had much luck with NAv-TV on any subject. Too much hype, but no actual substance. I had a 10 minute conversation today with them regarding purchasing a TV antenna...........they were very evasive, as they have been each time in the past I had a specific issue to address. I'm sure they are good, but so far not to me.

If I only new which TV antenna is worth the money they are sold for...

No matter what TV antenna you buy, incar TV reception will be poor...which is one of the reasons why I just tried an extension cable that fitted the TV antenna plug on the TV tuner.

Hi

On older cars (CLK-208, E-210) The MB TV aerials are built into the rear windscreen, and you add 3 amplifier units around the rear windscreen. (Well, in fact, you replace one, and add 2)

- On the S class, and I think on the newer models (CLK-209, C-203) the aerials are not in the physical windscreen, you add an aerial module at the top of the windscreen.

The problem with the older cars is that the rear windscreen only had the aerial elements in it if the car was equipped with COMAND - i.e if you retrofitted COMAND you dont have the aerials in the screen.

Cheers

Richard

.......Interesting. IThis is the first time I've heard about this. My car is a 200CLK that came with that came originally with North American Comand. Are you able to direct me to where these aerials are? I do not think these aerials are present in North American cars since Mb did not intend for the Tv function to work in North America. But if you are right, it will be great!

Hopefully this picture comes through. This is a diagram for a comand/TV tuner 210 retrofit. Not sure about other cars.

Ted: Did you get my email?
