06E55 and iPhone 3GS

I want to be able to use my iPhone 3GS in my 2006 E55. My vehicle does not have telephone installed nor does it have the iPod cable (it does have the auxillary jack, if it matters). It does have TeleAide (SOS), which is activated and confirmed to be in working order. I would like to stick with OEM parts if possible. My vehicle's build date is 09/05. What do I need to purchase/do to get this done? It is a US-spec vehicle.

Have dealer install the phone system (~$2K)

Have dealer install the iPod interface (~$500)

Then attach either the "bluetooth puck" or

http://www.comandonline.co.uk/produc...cat=252&page=1

plus the extra wire harness to connect iPod interface to the console.

What is involved in installing the "phone system"? I saw the instructions for the iPod install and it doesn't look too complicated at all, just time consuming... Since I would have most of the car apart to install the iPod interface, I don't think installing the phone system would be too much more involved...??

I will probably go with the 3GS cradle...

What extra wire harness are you referring to?

Installing the phone system involves components in the trunk and the wiring between the trunk and the dash. It's LOTS more complicated than the iPod interface installation.

On 2006 models, the wiring isn't already there, unlike 2005. At least for the nonAMG E-class.

You need these parts

Q-6-82-0965 $110 core kit
Q-6-82-0950 $160 completer kit
6-7-87-5878 $493.00 Bluetooth Module

Installation should be around 600-750 depending on the dealer. I don't know of any 3GS cradles it's possible they have one out now, but I haven't seen one yet. It's not an easy job. My friend who is a MB tech installed mine and it took him all night it was his first install though.

Actually, it looks A LOT easier than the iPod install! Most of the work is in the trunk...

The Teleaid uses a different lic set up. The phone mic set up is in a special six mic rear view mirror listed for $1300.

I was old the mic in the teleaid can work but sounds awful.

1) I don't want that gawd awful looking microphone hanging down from my headliner.

2) I don't want to loose my CD player functionality

3) I already have the rear-view mirror with the microphones

4) I want to be able to use the iPhone cradle and charge my phone while using it at the same time... Can't do that with this device...

My mic is mounted so you can't even see it but to each his own.

I think you can keep it the CD you just have to release control back to the CD but you are right it isn't as seamless as the MB iPOD.

If you have the mic you can wire the iTronic into it.

I have a cradle that charges and allows play through so I am not sure what you are getting at.

I am guessing you didn't read my post or look at the pictures.

I can play not only my iPod music on my iPhone but I can also play Sirius Sat radio through the iPhone and the car speaker system.

I can also route my iPhone nav voice through the car speakers.

I see what you are getting at but I have 90% of what you want using the iTronics at more then half the price you would pay for the OEM hook up.

If you don't mind dropping $2,500 into your '06 vehicle have at it.

Take a look at my post and the pics. I mounted my cradle next to the radio so I could access the iPhone with out having to open the center counsel but you can route the cradle there as well.

First of all, I did read your post. I wouldn't know where you mic is, because you never made any mention of it in your post, nor do you have any pictures of it...

I have factory navigation and factory Sirius, so that part doesn't interest me...

I can get all of the parts I need for a substantially lower price than $2,500 (less that $900 actually... all brand new); however, the cost isn't even a factor...

I guess you didn't read my original post... As I stated, I wanted to use all OEM equipment, if possible. Since it is possible (just requires a little bit of work), I would like to go this route. I understand you are trying to save members of the forum $$$; however, when I specifically state I want to use OEM equipment, I don't need a big discussion why I should go the iTronic route. I have my own reasons for wanting everything OEM and you have your reasons for going the iTronic route... Do you work for them or something???

I have an '06 CLS500. Did everything turn out alright?
Did you also need to do trunk work by installing the MHI module in the trunk? Or just the contact plate and the puck?
