It looks like the Tele-Aid hardware will work with both ATX (Tele-Aid) and Hughes Telematics (mbrace) services.

Apparently the migration hasn't been exactly amicable.

I finally got a straight answer about mBrace. I have an 09 GL450 and have had TeleAid since inception. When I saw the new system, I was told that my equipment would just need a software upgrade to enable mBrace once my TeleAid account lapsed (Dec 9). That came and went with phone call upon phone call, transfer upon transfer, only to end up with the TeleAid customer service rep every time.

This was probably the worst new release notice the MB USA has ever done because even the dealer was unsure about all this. Note that I started on the call and research road a few days before Tgiving.

Here's the answer that I just got today from my dealer who called mBrace through the dealer network: Owners of vehicles purchase/leased prior to 11/16/09 will only have mBrace available to them starting 11/16/10.

I am okay with having TeleAid, I just don't like that somehow my favorite function, Search and Send, is now unavailable. MY assumption is that MB wanted this function, now available through mBrace, to be only available through mBrace.

The new iPhone functionality is only available through mBrace also. No biggy since I will be installing MidCity's remote start and Viper SmartStart module tomorrow.

Anyway, all those waiting to get mBrace will need to wait another 11 months.

Hope this info helps.

So I guess I didn't get a straight answer. Thanks for the heads-up. I may try seeing if local Michigan dealer will do it for me while I am here.

Is your dealer charging for the mbrace firmware update?

I got a call back from my service advisor after I left a message asking how they're handling the migration. He knew that the hardware would support both Tele-Aid and mbrace, but wasn't sure on many of the other details. In passing he mentioned (he left me a message) something about a $250 fee.

How many of your dealers are charging to repoint your telematics units to mbrace? I'm wondering if I should shop dealers. My Tele-Aid contract is up in March, so I want to get ahead of this in time to make a choice.

There is a $299 promo (lifetime subscription) and the install / conversion is covered by MB.

I finally succumbed to repeated emails from MB and converted to MBRACE, the dealer did whatever they needed to do this morning. I paid $299, same lifetime deal, to MBRACE. Funnily my Teleaid service was recently renewed.

I'll have to review its IPhone remote features using my son's phone, if possible. I'm with Verizon and they don't yet have the IPhone.

Happy Holidays to all Forum members.

What about towing?, I am wondering if it's covered, and if you could get towed to a local non-MB dealer for service (e.g. I already have Amoco Club coverage).
