Unhappy COMMAND SYSTEM

Purchased a used 2005 E500 and the original purchaser did not purchase the CD changer, phone nor Navi. I would like to utilize the buttons on the existing module by installing a higher end COMMAND system or "hardware". Does anyone have any experience or possibly help me out in this regard?

Welcome to the forum. You could purchase and add the missing items to your current COMAND if you wish. Your COMAND is called NGT-1. I do not know whether NGT 2, 3, or 4 from '07 through '10 models can be installed.

You can search on terms Kenwood, Pioneer AVIC, and Alpine - often in combination with "nav" and "Bluetooth" - to see third party systems that are available. Contributors have written up their installations of some of these 3rd party options on the forum (which is why the search tool is your friend).

Just for clarity: command is a nice word; COMAND is the acronym used by Mercedes to describe its infotainment system.

You can retrofit Comand NTG 1 (lots of parts needed included new trunk carpet most likely), or Comand NTG 2.5.

MHI/UHI phone can also be retrofitted.
