Adding new wire to fuse box – ’99 E320

I’m trying to add a new wire to the rear fuse box B [Bay 18D] but am having trouble getting the spade blade to fully seat in the box. Is there a special way to do this or is it simply a matter of alignment? Does the red bar marking each plug position [A,B,C,D,E] have to be removed first? If it does, how do you remove it?
