Speaker Upgrade
Does anyone have experience/recommendations for upgrading the stock speakers without changing the stock head unit? Would I need an amp, etc? Thanks.

check dimesnsions of all your stock speaker location first. then depending on what model you have, check the stock specs of your system to determine if they are self amplified or not.

I put MB Quart all around and it sounds great. I have the DSD Discus series for the front components, and Discus series coaxles for the rear. They are amped thru a Rockford Fosgate Punch 40. I put it in without the amp and it was not that great. It made it quiet. I think the stock speakers are 1 ohm, very odd but aftermarkets are usually 4 ohm. So, you cant really use them on the stock setup, you need to run an amp. BTW, I am running my stock headdeck. The speaker size is 6 1/2 all around if you are looking into it for your C32. Im pretty sure its the same as mine and thats what I used. You should also put in a sub woofer if you are doing your system. 1 12" JL Audio should do it.

changing speakers-don't
The Bose system is configured with weird impedances. All Car stereo speakers are 4 ohms impedance. Bose drivers are 2.3 ohms driven by matched amplifier boards. Even the Bekker Grand Prix tape/radios did not drive four ohm speakers. To greatly improve the sound, replace the o.e. head unit with an aftermarket CD headunit that controls a CD changer and has 4 ohm outputs to drive 4 ohm coaxial speakers. P.

Changing the speakers alone will not help very much. The first thing you have to do is to change the head unit, then speakers, then amplifier.
MB Quart are good choice, but I prefer Focal. And yet, it really depends on what kind of music do you listen. I am a classical/jazz guy, thats why I favor clear and crisp speakers.

I understand about information retrieval....and that vastly improving accuracy, clarity and resolution of amplification and loudspeakers will only reveal more of the inadequacies of a front end/source components i.e.6 disc changer and head unit......but,is the becker configuration really that poor?....or can it handle slightly more up market up stream components plus sub?

I'm sure you will need some more power the MB head unit does not have the puch.
I first put in Focals 6.5 components in the front they are good speakers, but I'm pulling them out and putting in MB Quart PSD 216 in the front and RCK 116 in the back and adding a PWD 254 sub in the spair tire well. I'm going to drive them with Rockford Fosgate amps. It should be done by this Friday. I'll post some pics next week.

I have a c-230. I just upgraded the speakers to MB Quart DSD 216 (list $399 but available by searching the internet for about $189) and a Rockford Fosgate S-200 Amp ($199 at Best Buy). Installation was about $250 because you have to purchase all sorts of wiring harnesses because of the way the existing system is installed. I'm still using the standard head unit because my installer said its made by Blaupaunct and it's a good unit. The system sounds much better than the upgraded bose system.
