COMAND users, please help
When Steve installed my COMAND, both GPS antennae he had were bad. He sent me another and I have connected it. How do I get it to show me how many satellites it is receiving? I don't have the cd for my region. I have a copy of the CA, NV disc that Steve was using for testing.
I entered the address in Anaheim of someone I knew who used to live there. The COMAND voice tells me that I am "of the area of the digitized roads." Does this mean that it is receiving GPS signals?

That's the problem, Adam. I'm not on the map, I'm over 1000 miles east of it. After fiddling with the buttons and knobs, I got a screen with an arrow showing the direction and distance to the address in Anaheim that I entered. Both are accurate, so I believe that I am receiving signals from the GPS satellites. I guess I'll be buying the map set soon. I found a source that sells the all the NA discs, except Hawaii/Alaska, for $275.

Depending on what version of the firmware your COMAND has, you may be able to find out how many SAT's you are receiving. Hold MUTE + 1 + 3 down at the same time for about 5-7 seconds. This should put you into a Diag screen. If it does not try again. When you get to the Diag screen, choose Versions, then infos. On newer COMAND units there will be a line that tells how many SATs you are receiving as seen here :
See, https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ht=COMAND+DIag for more info.

When I drive to school I have to use two different discs, If I only have the second disc in then for a few hours it shows me in the middle of a yellow sea for awhile. Then when I approach where the disc is programmed to roads start to appear on the right of the screen. Dont know if that helps at all

From what you are describing, it seems like you are picking up GPS signals... I have the Comand update firmware disc if you need it. It seems like a fairly simple process to upgrade. I didn't have to do it since mine already had the lastest firmware upgrade. Let me know if you want it.
To upgrade:
While the unit is off, slip in the update disc. Then hold down both star and pound keys while powering up the unit (I think you could insert the disc after you do this procedure rather than before). It will display insert update CD and then it will change to another screen which will show you your current bios and the new one you will be replacing it with. The whole process is about 45 minutes and after you're done, the unit will then power down and back up again. It will then ask for your Navi CD.
The new upgrade has the intellispeller feature. Basically, it will blank out or dim any unusable letters when you do a city search so that the next available letter is only one click away. Also, it's rumored that with the update, the Comand draws less power from the battery.

dwang, is your update disc the Euro or US version ? I have the Euro version from a webpage I once found dealing with COMAND. Looking for the US version however.

BTW, on COMAND 2.0, if holding MUTE+1+3 together doesnt get you into diagnostic mode, select AUX input first, then try it
(AUX input is got by pressing SYS, then twiddling/pressing the right hand knob to select aux input)

Hmm, interesting theory. I only have the Euro Comand ISO upgrade file. I can burn you a copy Silver_Lana. But I have no idea what it does if it's uploaded onto a US spec Comand. I, for one, would not want to take the chance of uploading it and somehow mess up the Comand.... The choice is yours!! Let me know.
