Separate amp for am and fm?
#4
There are such things a antenna amplifiers but I doubt that Mercedes has them in thier cars. Car radios usually have excellent sensitivity that would make such an amp superfluous. Local/distance switches are actually attenuation to knock down powerful signals that are too much for a radio tuner to handle.

Most of the time the installer don't know it there and the result is no AM.

Thanks Tony. My speakers sound like they are blown in AM mode and when I switch to FM they sound fine, could a bad AM amp be the problem? There is also no static in AM but as the annoucer speaks it's when the speakers sound blown.
Thanks

Other option is bring it into the dealer, maybe the ground connection at the antenna is loose.
Sorry that all I know.
