Thanks in advance

The US comand does NOT support TV features unless you had it reprogrammed...

greetingz,
How extensive is the reprogramming?

I have access to somebody with the MB laptop command programmer. The question is, is this something that can be easily programmed or the solution is to have to get Euro command unit?

Thanks

If you have access to the MB COMAND programmer than it's just a matter of turn-on the TV function which is currently mapped to the blank button on the COMAND system. I heard that there may be some issues with the COMAND 2.5 on the early S class year 2000 where the TV function may not work at all.

Megacomm

I had the TV (blank) button on the Command 2.0 programmed by the MB technician to turn on. Now if I press the blank (TV) button, I get "TV not available. Please contact your MB dealer" (meaning that the blank TV button is now activated and looking for the TV signal but couls not find one). However as soon as the Megacomm multimedia adapter is connected, I get the CD changer listed as not present and several kind of other errors.

Can somebody with Megacomm adapter for Command 2.0 confirm the wire color and pin position on the bigger black connector (stecker C2) from the adapter. There currently 5 wires going into the black connector (thick yellow=pin18, thick purple=pin17, thin yellow=pin?, thin red= pin? and ground wire=pin?

Thanks

You may want to turn off / on / restart the car a few times to have all the signals sync up. I got the same errors when I add the phone kit to my S500.

Hey do you know if you can reprogram the comand to allow TV in motion? Since you have access to the programmer. If you know how to do that, you make a few dollars doing all the cars with the Euro comands from Steve.

The reason of the question above was because it was found that three of the wires going into the black C2 connector were loose from the metal pins (pin 2, pin 3 and pin 11)

I found from a website which listed the pin designation that pin 2 = "NF TV re", pin3= "NF TV GND" and pin11= "NF TV li". I guess they must be sound input (right, left and ground) for TV. So I am soldering the thin red to pin 2, thin yellow to pin 11 and the bare metal wire to pin 3.

We'll see if this work this afternoon.

WRT to the speed sensor, if the above work, I guess we will see also if we can deactivate the speed sensor somehow. My concern is that the speed sensor is also used by the Comand unit for volume adjustment wrt to speed.

Update on Multimedia adapter 1240 install

Got another chance of installing the adapter. This time we figured out why we are getting the error signal. Actually we have to move all the pin/wire from the C1 and C2 connectors (from the adapter) to the corresponding empty slots on the existing C1 and C2 connectors on the car wiring loom. If this is done then should eliminate all the previous errors.

However when all is connected, adapter getting input from a Sony dig. camera, the picture is out of sync but the sound is good. The problem looks like a PAL to NTSC conversion. The picture looks like when you put a PAL recording to a NTSC monitor. I guess this multimedia adapter (since bought in Europe) is expecting PAL signal feed but getting NTSC feed from my dig.camera.

So, I do not know if anybody have any idea out there how to solve this out of sync situation. I am going to try a NTSC to PAL converter and then feed the PAL signal to the adapter to see if this is indeed the case.

Have you contact Megacomm regarding the NTSC version of their device ? Instead of buying the Megacomm device, you should have better off bought the Mercedes TV-tuner which will support either NTSC or PAL. Beside the built-in tv-tuner, it also provides two set of A/V inputs. You can also control the tv-channel + A/V inputs via the COMAND and the steering wheel.

I would think that if anyone can figure out a way to hack or make an adapter for the US COMAND unit to successfully pick up TV signals they would make tons of money. I know a lot of people who would want this feature in their car and would pay top dollar for it.

Hope someone out there is working on this!

I need TV in my car NOW!!!!!!

All you do is buy the current MB TV tuner (yes. it supports NTSC), the MB wiring loom, have the dealer tell your COMAND it has TV (which will make the blank button behave like the Euro TV button) and some aerials , and install it all !

Cheers

Just order it from audiocomp.info in germany. If you have a RGB source, then buy the RGB one, its much cheaper than the Pal composite version (since it doesnt have to convert to RGB)

Also, megacomm.de sells the adapters (or maybee one sells one, and one the other) Of course, the sites are in german, but altavista's translation stuff will help you

Hi Richard,

How did that project of yours go where one had to assemble or purchase the connectors into the Canbus system and download the program you made to enable the TV to work while driving? Have you tweaked it so that it is easily done? I'm interested in doing this sometime in the future as I think its probably impossible that the dealerships here have the older STAR program that will enable the TV to run while driving. Thanks..

Hi Richard

I have a centurion cen-270 portable dvd player that will be set up in back for the kids. I want to connect this through the comand screen so that the front passenger can watch and listen to the audio through the speaker system.

The outputs from the player are composite and S video. What part do I need and will this allow the audio to go through the comand system.

Thanks for your help
