Why would mercedes choose to remove this feature? Same hardware, right? I have an 07 w211, and I've upgraded the system firmware to the latest (and I'm assuming final) version, but I still can't play DVD's in the front loader slot.
From what I understand, the older models can...
Any ideas on how to enable this?

its not a matter of older vs. newer models... what happened is that at one point the supplier ran out of CD drives for the W211 comand and elected to deliver DVD drives instead... people who got cars during that time (about 8 months or so) just happened to get DVD capability for free...

Wow, you'd think MB would pay the extra 30 cents to get a DVD vs CD drive. Can you even buy just standard CD drives anymore?
Thanks for the tip, I would have spent hours reading about engineering mode, SDS and all sorts of other ways only to be left disappointed.
