w211 subwoofer/amp problem
w211 subwoofer/amp problem
I have read every w211 subwoofer thread I could find on here and mbworld and still cant resolve my issue.
I just got a 2005 E320 Avantgarde with the HK 7.1 system, which I hoped coming from my w202 c280 bose setup would be a huge upgrade, but ive been pretty dissapointed.
a. the built in ipod headphone jack is set to a lower max volume than the radio? can this be changed? Even with the volume up all the way on my iphone, the aux volume is still much lower than the radio.
b. the subwoofer. blows. or maybe its some amp problem. on certain songs, it sounds great, certain bass notes it kicks fine. i listen to alot of house and dubstep, so there will be some songs that sound fine. then ill switch it to some MUCH mellower song, and in a certain frequency range the sub makes this terrible clipping sound, a physical excursion type sound. is this fixable? is it an amp thing or a sub thing? HELPPPPPP
i have no interest in putting another sub box in my trunk, and all the shops seem to tell me the free air rear deck replacement option is not a good one, id like to just get this thing working the way it's supposed to.
please someone help, i dont trust someone at a shop/dealer who is trying to tell me something to give me a straight answer.
please help

there was a tech document for the ipod volume control, i think it was a dime or something in cost
as for the sub.. it is what it is, the aftermarket shops are asking if you want bass with some impact then it should go in a box. or you can add a small woofer amp for the factory sub in your dash
the woofers that the aftermarket shops sell are designed to be in a type of enclosure to provide many years of enjoyment to you without destroying the woofer
Unless of course you can find a free woofer, JL Audio sold some 10 years ago or so... regardless your factory amp doesn't have the ***** to run an aftermarket woofer anyways... so there are you options...
aftermarket amp to the factory sub
or
aftermarket amp and sub...
remember the aftermarket shops did not design the audio system in the vehicle... MB had it done as cheap as possible.. so it is not their fault it lacks. Also the aftermarket shops are not a non profit organization... so you will pay for their expertise if they are a qualified shop

so i spoke to the local mb dealer, i have a headphone aux jack coming out of my glove box rather than the plug in ipod comand integration. there is apparently a preamp for the ipod comand connector but the dealer knew nothing about fixing the volume to the aux headphone cable.
as for the sub, i really dont want to have a box just because of lack of trunk space and the fact that it rattles the trunk and the bass isnt crisp going through the back seat from my pas experience with a 2x10 box in the trunk.
im open to the free air in the deck with an amp option. any specific 10" free airs anyone can recommend to drop into the factory spot? i know it wont boom but at least it will be crisp and not distort.
