Anyone who owns a MB that is six or more years old has experienced the failure of one or more speakers in his car. Actually, it's not the speaker (driver) but the amplifier (pc board) that powers each tiny Bose driver. Bose will sell MB only complete speaker/amp assemblies even though only the amplifier board is dead. These amps are made under contract by Clarion for Bose. There are several 12 volt accessory companies who are now supplying 12 volt (car stereo) dealers with replacement amplifier boards. Replacement involves unscrewing the o.e. amp board and unplugging the wire harness, and replacing with new board. Most car stereo dealers look at the Bose system negatively because they know that the system can be radically improved by replacing the tiny Bose speakers with coaxial speakers all driven by one amplifier, and by adding a subwoofer.
