1999 S-500
AM Reception
I currently bought a beautiful 1999 S500 with only 58K miles. I love the car and continues to grow on me every day!!
The only thing that bugs me is that I get very poor AM reception. I enjoy listening to AM Talk radio especially KFI AM640 in California. I believe that the problem is that the antenna is too short by one section (only extends 3 sections). Does anyone know about where I could get an antenna that retracts (like normal) but is 4 sections long?? Any other solutions? My MB dealer here tells me that there may be a problem with a "signal amplifier"?? The radio, and all of its other functions, works properly. Help!!

.............I know this does not solve your problem but gives you the info. AM reception on MB's for whatever reason is incredibly poor. It is even worse in newer vehicles with Comand. I don't understand it, but it is an open secret in MB cars.

Bad AM reception
Do you have tinted windows or window screens? Two of my MB with tinted windows have noticably poorer reception out-of town.
MB has a TSB about window screens causing bad reception. My though about the window tinting is that the good window tint has a metalic layer that is causing interfearance.
