Radar Detector Installation

I have a 2012 C250 sedan. I would like to put an Escort Passport 9500ixv radar/laser detector in it. First, I'm looking for mounting ideas for it. I'm not enamored with the suction cups on the windshields. The suctions cups have a tendency to fall off; the radar detector shakes like crazy using them; and the great state of California frowns upon mounting anything to the windshield. A visor mount probably wouldn't work since the 9500ix needs a clear view of the sky in order to get a GPS signal to lockout false alerts and to warn of cameras. I've seen rearview mirror mounts like the Blendmount, but I don't think they would work on the C-class since the stem comes straight up from the mirror instead of directly to the rear like on most other cars. I would be willing to return the 9500ix and get a Valentine One if there's any good mounting options for the V1.

Second, I would like suggestions on how to hardwire a radar detector. I originally thought I would just run a wire to the fusebox that's inside the dashboard, but despite it being in the owner's manual, it's non-existent. So if I still want to run a wire to the fusebox, I would have go to the fusebox in the engine bay and I'd rather not be poking holes in the firewall. So what should I tap to run power for the radar detector? I've seen wires designed to tap power from the auto-dimming mirror, but they don't seem to come with a remote unit for a mute button.

I could not find a good way to mount a Valentine in my E-class except on the driver visor. Like you - I hate the suction cups (I don't like the radar to be visible outside the car, plus hate when they come loose). I researched a lot of options and couldn't find anything good (except a full hidden install and really didn't want to drop that much on it).

I paid my local radio shop to install it - I think it cost me $30. I know I could have done it but I'm very happy to have them do it and know it's done right (and no skinned knuckles or broken tabs on my molding). They actually used my cigarette plugin to do it (since I have a remote display for my V1) which went behind the ashtray.

Try this:

Amazon Amazon

Just run a couple wires and wire it to your dome light.

Do you think that will work on a Benz mirror?

It should, it may sit a bit funky considering how fat the mirrors are, but a little bit of ingenuity would fix that no problem.
