Question UCI USB cable + 30-pin (or lightning cable) for iPhone

Hi,

I have a 2012 R350, with IPOD integration kit, and the UCI cable which has an AUX and 30pin connector. Then I found out there is an UCI USB cable.

Is anyone doing the following?

glove box <-> UCI USB cable <-> Apple 30pin cable (or lighning cable) <-> iPhone4 (iPhone5) ?

Would this setup charge the phone AND allow steering wheel/COMAND control/display of the iPhone?

Thanks in advance.

I'm doing this on a 2008 E320. Works fine for me except the iPhone display (song) is only on the heads-up unit... doesn't display anything on COMAND in-dash. Steering wheel controls work fine.

Don't know if this helps you or not...

Hi bfisher,

This helps, thanks!

hope you won't mind a few more questions

- Can I ask if this setup charges your phone too?
- Does the COMAND control work? (you mention steering wheel)
- I am surprised to see that COMAND does not display song name.
Have you used the UCI iPod (not USB) cable for your iPhone? (I used to, and song name displays properly on COMAND, as expected).

Thanks again!

Sorry - I missed this before.

- yes, my phone charges
- steering wheel controls work fine - but only steering wheel controls do. I can't advance songs by the dash unit.
- dash unit does not show any song info when connected to the iphone, only the display inside the speedo shows song name. Wish it was more sophisticated... but mine is also a few years old - maybe the new ones do.

Thanks for the info.
I bought a cable off ebay, and unfortunately the car just complains about 'incompatible device'. Ended up getting using the OEM 30-pin cable + Apple lightning adapter, which work very well together (though not as clean as a single cable).

yeah, the 3rd party devices don't seem too reliable. I did the same as you - original cable with adapter. Works well.
