W220 S class phone not working.
My phone has never worked in the car since iv had it for nearly 2 years now. Always get the same message on the Command screen and the dash - "Tel not plugged in"
I then realised the actual phone itself, a Nokia 6310i, was not switching ON. The car did not seem to be charging it up. So i tried to charge it up with a household charger and again it would not charge or switch ON. So the phone was goosed and hence the car would think it just not plugged in.
So i borrowed a 6210 phone and popped that in. At first it wouldnt do anything, then it started charging up. Good news i thought. Switched the phone on and the car is STILL giving the message "Tel Error - Tel not plugged in", which was the original message that i kept getting anyway.
So just ran a diagnostic via STAR on it and these are the 2 codes its come up with.
N1201 - The microphone line from component B25 (hands-free system microphone) to component A34/4 (CTEL interface) has a short circuit or an open circuit.
N1209 - Communication fault between component A34/4 (CTEL interface) and A34/6 (portable CTEL); component A34/4 (CTEL interface) is not comppatible with component A34/6 (postable CTEL)
I didnt think it would be anything to do with the phone, but my only concern for now is wether its not picking up the phone because its a 6210 rather than a 6310, which might be whats giving the second fault code???
Any other thoughts? Or checks i could do? I want to upgrade it to a Viseo Blue Tooth but that might be slightly pointless if the problem lies somewhere else in the system or is too expensive to repair.
Thanks.

I would just get a tooki from navtv and call it a day, I ran into the same problem a few years ago and it seems something to do with the analog telaid module, after a few hours of screwing with it, I spent a half hour installing the tooki and it was perfect. I don't have anymore, but you can hook up with derek@navtv.com for one.
also, very reliable unit

w4sim doesn't provide the model year of his car, but it appears to be an '03 or later. He is in Europe.
1) I don't know if the Euro models had tele-aid.
2) If the car is '05 or later, its tele-aid, if equipped, would be digital.
Unfortunately, I can't provide the solution to the problem. Not familiar enough with European phone equipment.

Tanks for the replies chaps, but iv got this sorted now.
The car is a 2004 with the curly wire cradle, dont know if that makes a difference.
But iv been lookikng and looking at the 2nd code and it appears theres a fault/problem with the phone itself.
I got myself a proper Nokia 6310i and as soon as i put it into the cradle the car picked it up straight away. All the functions, including steering wheel controls, worked perfectly. Even the mic seemed to work perfectly fine, so everything works well.
I think the problem with the 6210 was probably a bad connector.
