New HU and now a little distortion

I have had an Alpine 9807 CD?MP3 player recently installed in my 2001 Mercedes CLK430 Cabriolet. I did NOT have the Bose system, just the regular factory Mercedes radio. The installer said it was not a problem to install the new HU, that it was a simple swap. It works fine but at high volumes there is some distortion in the sound, especially voices which sound like a slight gargle. While the speakers are the originals I believe they are still good.

Another dealer suggested that the installing dealer did not disconnect the amp. that's built into the car and so I have the signal from the HU which is amplified, going through the original amplifier and that is the cause of the distortion.

How can it be hooked up so that I don't have the 2 amps at the same time.? Also I have 3 speakers in each of the 2 doors and a sub inbuilt into the rear seat. Thanks.

I belive u get bose standard if u like it or not on the cabrio. I have a 99 320 cabrio. Look at ur rear seat in between by the armrest, you see the woofer between. Doesnt it have a bose logo on it?

I hooked up an aftermarket headunit to my car was totally not pleased with the results, there is an internal amp and its not in the rear left trunk panel like the coupes. I belive it is under the pasenger carpet. I plan on installing my new headunit and runnig fresh speaker wire to the doors ( where the speakers are)

ANd u cant use the speakers that come with your car, they are 2 ohm, and the headunit can only support 4 ohm.

I am in a similar dillema, email me if you need further help r26blue@hotmail.com
