2004 cars with fiber optics??
i got a 2004 CLK320 and i been trying to swap the radio for a new one...
everyone is telling me that all 2004 mercedes cars have fiber optics for the radio and that EVERYTHING has to changed out of the car (speakers, amps, wires)....is this true?!??!?!?!

All the factory equipped audio components like headunit, cd-changer, sound system and E-Call, and retrofitted MB-components like voice recognition and phone interface, Sirius-receiver, won't work with a non-MB-headunit, because they all have one in common: the fibre optic interface, which is necessary for proper function.
If you've got just your head unit installed, and no further component like E-Call, sound amp, you can use another head unit.
As the 2004 CLK has the E-Call ex works as a standard equipment, I'd rather not use another head unit, as it won't work any longer.

You don't have to replace the speakers but I don't think Teleaid will work anymore without the stock head unit. I would suggest you upgrade to a Comand System or get a Audio 10 Head unit. The sound of the audio 10 is excellent and COmand will get you a Nav system and option to install a factory mercedes TV tuner with A/V Inputs. Ask Steve for all parts. Do a search for his email address.
