Is it possible to retrofit a 2003 e500 with the same navigation unit as the 2004? Since the 2004 has satalite as well. I need to know this ASAP since I am in the market to buy a E500 and was wanting to save some money.

anything is possible, but keep in mind mbusa actually replaced customer's cars instead of doing the retrofit themselves for -03 customers who had ordered their cars with navigation- (the availability of that option was delayed). One contact for this would be steve, who is the retrofit guru on this board, located in the netherlands, and has helped many people retrofit command systems in their cars. He has informed me that the retrofit for the new e-class is possible, but the unit itself is difficult to come by and the installation will be very complex. Personally, I'd recomment going with an '04 that has command built in, you'll also be getting several other minor improvements and tweaks over the 2003 models (including the 7G transmission), do a search of the w211 forum for specifics. gl
I believe STeve is working on this issue and should have it ready soon. He's installed hundreds of nav systems in other classes like the C and CLK and old E.

Just about finished up a comand retrofit in a european W211...the worst car ever to get comand retrofitted in due to the lame radio's we get here in europe...US spec cars should be a lot easier to get comand retrofitted in...or european spec cars from before 03 - 2003...
