It's impossible unless you have double layer DVD burner. However, you can store copy of DVD on hard drive with a chance in future to make a backup copy.

Actually, that's not true. The nav DVD in my COMAND system right now is the backup DVD I burned a few months ago and it's been working without a hitch. The original only had just over 1GB of data on it so it definitely was not dual-layer. The version of my nav disc was 2004.1. For burning, I did it on my Powerbook using Toast 6 with TDK 2x DVD-R media. Hope this helps.

The amount of data has nothing to do with whether the DVD is single or dual layer.

If you have a dual layer burner, and use a dual layer blank, and burn only 100MB of data, 50MB will be on the first layer and 50MB will be on the second layer.

It's just not cost effective to use a dual layer format if you aren't exceeding the capacity of a single layer... unless you want it for copy protection.

Sorry, that was implied in my response. Yes, you certainly can burn a dual-layer disc with less data than what a single-layer holds, but it's a waste of money even when using large-scale duplication facilities.
