What car do you have ? Others have reported very good results (t-bone) under the deck lid in an W211

I hope you guys are referring to hat tray, parcel shelf, rear deck, etc. (I suppose the first poster is because it was mounted "inside").

Deck lid = trunk... under the deck lid would indeed give very poor reception.

I have the antenna under the rear parcel shelf on my W211 with excellent reception. If the phone works so does the satellite.

I have an XM antenna on top of the shelf behind the right rear headrest. It is totally unobtrusive; it does not catch your eye at all from inside or outside the car. Reception is fine. I get occasional drop-outs, but so did I in another car with an XM antenna on the roof.

Good luck on getting your set-up to work. Satellite radio is great.

Antenna mounting

I would follow the factory instructions (Star Bulletin) - anything else (Sirius radio with factory warranty) is not covered under warranty.

I had mine installed Tuesday under the rear deck in the corner on the passenger side. Reception has been as good as I have experienced in other setups with Sat radio. Will get some cutouts if I get trapped under an overpass. Otherwise reception is flawless in my short test.
