CLS 500
Key Fob Issues

Having issues with my key fob, any advice is greatly appreciated as my alternative is heading to the stealership to get one for $500 (gag)
  • 2006 CLS 500 (old ugly black key fob)
  • Over the last week or two the lock/unlock has worked with less and less frequency
  • It has now stopped working completely
  • It has been dropped in water previously (2x) and both times, after 24-48 hours of drying out, key resumes working
  • last drop in water was 4 months ago and has worked fine since
  • Key still runs car, but have to lock with blade, then unlock and alarm goes off until you insert key. This has led me to just not locking my car to not have to go through this scene lol
  • I opened key up and chip seems to have some crud (spiderweb looking almost - potato pictures attached) on this, can this be culprit / cleaned?
  • Are there any other options for getting a replacement key short of getting the ignition replaced/
Thank you in advance!!
