Comand retrofit done - questions...

Guys,

I've done Comand retrofit today. We've replaced factory APS 20 system. CD-changer does not work because it has to be connected via fibreoptic cable but that's nothing - I'll just change the CD-changer.

Question (actually two) are related to connections. All the connectors fit (C1,C2, and others). I still need to buy HRS-WICLIC connector cable to connect GPS antenna. As I understand when I turn on ignition Comand should start and when I turn it off it should turn off as well and it doesn't. Do you know which cable is responsible for this?

Also I assume that when you place Comand into the dashboard hole you should hear some "click" sound when it;s being locked and this is also not happening. Probably there is some metal? piece missing from both sides of the Comand unit which does the trick. Do you know what that might be? Pictures?

One thing which I'm not sure about is plastic thin (3mm) frame which was around the Command unit. I removed it because otherwise it wouldn't fit. Should I put it back in?

I konw it's a lot but I would be grateful for any help.

Thanks,

The system powers on and off by one of two methods, either sensing the power on the ignition wire, or by receiving signal over CANBUS.

You don't mention your car or your COMAND part number, so I can't tell you which works which way, but it is possible that the two are not using the same method. I remember you have a newer car, so it is possible you have an older COMAND and need to add some wiring. If you have W210, the COMAND does not CLICK into place, it is screwed.

You may also want to check if the illumination comes on and screen changes when you turn on the headlights; check if you are getting proper speed pulse; and finally if your radio gets good reception.

Thanks in advance,
Let me follow this from a blind start.

- you installed the new console bracket and you installed the new wooden fascia ?

- you also have W210 brackets on the COMAND (small L shaped metal on either side )

- you installed the diagnostic line and speed sense line .

- modified your C connector into C2

- modified your CD connection in C1

- connected the fibre cable correctly to the COMAND

Am I being overly cautious and do you have all those items in place ?
