Playing CD'R on Audio 10 CD
I have Audio 10 CD installed on my 98 SLK. I have problems if I try to play CD'Rs on it. No problem with the normal ones (original). I´ve heard that depending on the program you use on your computer and the burning speed to make them it can work or not. I´ve tried with different programs, speeds, brands of CD and I can´t seem to find out. Any help? Thank you all.

This sounds strange... Mine plays them just fine, no matter what CD-R brand or speed. As a matter of fact, it even plays multisession CD-Rs that no other player can handle.
Do you finalize your CD-Rs? Are these CD-Rs, not CD-RWs? This is essential, as Audio 10 CD can not play CD-RW media.
Try using a different CD-R drive (or ask someone to burn you a CD) and see if your Audio 10 can play it. If yes, chuck your drive.

I am very satisfied with the Audio 10 compared to the stock unit. Can't remember the price, but this should not matter anyway, as mine was purchased when the US Dollar was strong in comparison with the Euro; now the situation is reversed, so check completed auctions on eBay.de to find out the going price for them (eBay.de is where many members of this board got theirs from).
Installation costs in my case were 0.0 - it is very easy to do with the right tools (takes about 30 minutes or less); search this forum and you will find a lot of information on this topic. Good luck!

On the CD side, make sure you close the disc when you burn it (on most software that option is usually stated as "allow more to be added to this disc" and it should be OFF). The program and speed you burn with can make a small difference, but generally not when burning audio CDs. If you are concerned, try burning at 8x speed.

You can get them from Steve (MBenzNL) in either the DIN size or the W203/W209/W463/W639 size, shipped to your door (or pickup from him when he is around). Current price will vary depending on exchange rates.

I've got the same problem with my Audio 10 w/ Bose in a SLK 320 (2000/09). Strange thing is, however, that it accepts older blueish CD-Rs, e.g. Verbatim, but not newer ones. Sometimes, it won't even handle a "real" cd properly.
Since I read this thread the first time I've tried several different methods of burning my CD-Rs but nothing has helped, closed session, protection, 1x speed, etc.

What do you mean by blueish CD´Rs? I´ve had also better results with older CD´Rs rather than with the newer ones. For example, 650 MB ones (you don´t find them anymore) work well, but 700 MB or bigger ones don´t. Also, some audio CDs (those that only can handle music, not data) work "well". When I say well, I mean they start playing around 30 sec. to 1 minute after inserting the CD on the radio, but you can still listen to it. I don´t have any problems with original CDs.I usually use Nero and the lower speed available (I think is 4x), always finish the CD, but not always get good results. I´ve posted this problem in other forums and they said that sometimes when the laser lens is dirty this can happen. I bought a cleaning CD but haven´t got any improvement. The only thing left to do is to clean it directly, opening the unit and cleaning it, but I´m afraid to mess something up.
If anybody got a good solution to it, please let us know.
