2015 E350 Wagon subwoofer

Hey guys just picked up a 2015 e350 wagon. First Benz and man I just love it.

I come from several bmws and there just seems to be so much less information available on these logic7 systems in MB. Especially for the wagon, perhaps just because of the low production numbers.

On to my question. The wagon seems to have a completely different subwoofer than the sedan. I got inside my spare tire area and pulled out the woofer to check it out. I’d love to get some more bass without sacrificing space.

The sub appears to be a pretty standard 8” shallow mount sub. Paper cone and looks pretty low quality so perhaps some room for improvement. I took some very rough measurements of the factory enclosure. It appears sealed and about 0.33 cubic feet. The mounting depth is just under four inches.

Has anyone replaced this sub using the factory enclosure?

Does anyone know how many watts the factory amp is sending to that sub?

My thought was to add something like a Kicker CompC or maybe even a JL 8w1 into that factory enclosure. And power either with something like a 150 watt sub amp.

If anyone has tried anything like this I would love some feedback. I have a feeling that the average wagon owner doesn’t listen to gangster rap like me lol.

Thanks in advance!

Ok I couldn’t wait so I stopped by my local car stereo store and had them take a look at it. We are going to try a JL 8w1 inside the factory box and run it on an alpine amp at 150 watts. Will report back in the coming weeks once installed.

Also, not sure how common this is, but my center dash speaker is blown. It puts out this annoying buzz. Even with logic7 turned off. I think I’m going to just have my guys disconnect it while they’re in there.

Got the car back. Used a JL 8w1 inside the factory enclosure. My guy was wanting to build a custom box but I said no way, I want to try this on a more budget friendly route. I used an alpine 150 watt rms amp. Was easy for them to hide back in the side of the trunk. Anyway, the sub absolutely slams. I am so impressed with the sound for such a tiny little sub inside a plastic box. With this addition, I can now turn down the bass in the rest of the car and the sound is much more balanced. No more having to overwork the front door woofers like i was doing. And as for the blown dash speaker, I just had him disconnect it. Probably not too many folks out there adding subs to wagons, but hope this helps someone.

So - any chance you can take a picture of the connections they made to the factory sub?
I have the HK factory subwoofer next to the spare tire and I'm thinking about upgrading the subwoofer with a spare tire all in one version.

But in order to so so I need to connect it to the existing wiring harness.
