Sirius will become an MB installed option

Just thought to let you know that starting in the beginning of 2005, the Sirius radio option on new cars will not be a dealer-installed option anymore, but will be done at the distribution center when the cars come off the dock in the US.

I don't remember the actual start dates as every model had a different date; on the CLS (we ordered a CLS55) it was Jan.05.

Just a precaution for anyone that is not willing to have this ugly plastic puck on the trunk lid as the car will arrive at the dealer with it already installed.

I cancelled Sirius on the order and will have it installed at the dealer after delivery so I can have a choice on the antenna install.

Sirius SIGMA

Wolfman,

Check out my other post about the new under glass antenna...the Sirius Sigma. That would be the coolest and most stealthy install, I think.

Sounds like a great antenna! For the SL I would still prefer the hidden antenna in the hood vent which is totally invisible.

Mercedes may also change their antenna model in the short-term, but that is unlikely. I would suggest to anyone that have cars slated for delivery in early 05 with Sirius and not wanting that ugly trunk mounted piece to either cancel the Sirius factory install (and making it a dealer install) or request an install without antenna. Otherwise it'll be irreversibly there...

Availability of Sirius "SIGMA" antenna

According to Sirius and their subcontractor/partner RecepTec, the interior glass-mounted antenna (SIGMA) won't be available until "early next year".

I just picked up my Sirus kit from the dealer and plan to have them install it on my CL55 next week. It sounds like the antenna on the trunk is really ugly. Does anyone know what other mounting locations are possible.

The parts department had orginally told me I could install it myself. BUt when I picked it up and asked the service dept they informed me that I need a speical benz progammer to configure it. Does anyone know if you can self install it assuming you have some techinical competence.

The CL55 antenna is not visible after mounting. You can install the kit yourself and have the dealership program the system afterwards, however the system will still "work" before programming, if it is installed correctly. It will just fill your diagnosis log with errors and make it difficult for REAL errors to be picked out.

Scorchie, thanks for the response. Do you have any idea how I can get the install manual?

Yes, ask your dealer for a printout of the installation instructions.
