Help connecting Pioneer AVIC-N1 DVD navigation receiver to '98 C280 with Bose system
I have a '98 C280 with Bose system I want to swap out the headunit with the Pioneer AVIC-N1 DVD navigation receiver.
Does the original MB headunit output line or speaker-level signal to the Bose amp in the trunk?
The Pioneer receiver has both speaker and line-level outputs. Which one should I use to connect to the wireless harness that goes to the Bose amp?
Thanks!

The system in your car uses "pseudo line level". It is a high-level line output. If your head unit can output at least 2-3V as line level, then I would feed that to the Bose amp instead of the speaker level.
Search here in the forums, there's a lot of information on doing this.

I did search this and a few other MB forums. There's a lot
of info. But you nailed my question down to just one point:
The Pioneer DVD/NAV receiver's brochure says it's got 4V line-level outputs. Is this too much for the '98 C280's Bose amp to handle?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
P.S.
a related question..... do W202s without Bose system have no amplifiers in the trunk? If so, I assume original MB OEM headunit(Alpine or Becker-made) have built-in amps? Or more precisely, are all the MB headunits the same, Bose or non-Bose? Thanks!

Original head units designed to be used with Bose usually can be used without Bose. They all have "amps" so to speak in them, but I think what you're asking is if the amps can drive speakers. Yes, they can. I believe most 1998 and later head units are capable of switching their output based on the impedence of the load.

here's the line-level output diagram from the unit.
I have the VW/Audi-type connector that goes into the
MB factory radio harness. Each channel has a + and a -
wire. Are there connectors for connecting RCA plugs
to these bare wires?
Does the Bose amp need to be connected to the blue/white
amp turn-on wire from the Pioneer? I looked at a MB radio
pin-out diagram. There doesn't seem to be a wire for this
purpose coming out of the factory radio.
thanks again!
