I believe that amp is fiberoptic so NO. It accepts fiberoptic input from Benz head units.

Only the connection to the changer is FO. So, YES. It's all copper going back to the Bose amp.

Connection to the phone is fibre too... but yes, the Bose amp is copper.

Not "newer" or "older" ... just different applications!

Sunman wrote "systems" without regard to car, so let me enlighten your narrow thinking:

2002 W210 with copper Bose is NEWER than 2001 W203 with fibre optic Bose
2003 W208 with copper Bose is MUCH NEWER than 2000 W220 with fibre optic Bose
(did you even know there's a 2003 W208?)

Newer design? Newer meaning purchased more recently? You don't qualify your statements, which leaves them open to interpretation.

Sunman has a W203, the thread starter has a W202. Learn to read between the lines to grasp the subject.

You may be a little hot!

I just did the opposite. I replaced my bose amp with Soundstream Amps and changed the speakers. My amps have 5 volt balanced inputs that I connected to directly to the factory head unit. The problem here is that you have a different type of output on the Kenwood than the Bose amp has input. Differential (Bose) versus unbalanced (Kenwood) Believe it or not, the factory systems architecture is very good, they just use HORRIBLE speakers and a marginal amp. You may be interested in what I did and posted: https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics/88524-bose-system-can-upgrade-while-mantaining-factory-radio.html
