flashing W211 E20 4MATIC FBS/VIN onto C32 AMG ECU

recently i have decided to investigate the feasibility of flashing/"cloning" an E320 4MATIC's VIN and FBS data onto a C32 AMG ECU.
E320 4MATIC ECU part #: A 112 153 44 79
C32 AMG ECU part #: A 031 545 18 32
i have found someone locally willing to try this, but so far we have the following observations which i hope someone here can help answer.
All of these observations were made on a W211 E320 4MATIC:
1. NO ECU
- Car won't crank (obviously) but the display cluster does not have any messages about problems.
- snap-on zeus code reader doesn't detect the vehicle (expected), however we can navigate to the corresponding model and reach "fallback" menus designed to test each component. of course, none of these work either. none of this is a surprise, but it's good information for case #3.
2. E20 ECU
- car will crank (obviously), display cluster reads no issues. again, no surprises.
3. C32 ECU with (allegedly-done-right) W211's FBS and VIN info.
- all code readers have failed to detect the vin.
- car message cluster states the traction control and abs systems are malfunctioning.
-as i see it, this is a good thing. it at least tells me the ECU is good, but something is up with the coding.
my question for this forum is the following.
- what questions can i ask people who are trying to help me, about their setup, that i can provide to you so we can get further? i imagined that non-mercedes software that is able to do the whole re-virginise/cloning procedure is extremely limited, and that my colleagues are using the same non-mercedes software as everyone else. is this wrong?
- why would the vin not show up?
- can't we simply rewite the location of the C32 ECU's VIN with the W211 VIN?
- they're the same length and there's no way there are more or less bytes reserved.
- the only thing i can think of is the vin location is different in the C32 ECU, but i don't think the software would allow someone to write a vin to the wrong location.
- can't we simply rewite the location of the C32 ECU's VIN with the W211 VIN?
- what am i missing here?
- i understand this is unchartered territory, but this is a relatively-uncontroversial clone.
- we're talking about the same engine for two cars, and i have used WIS/ASRA to compare pinouts.
- i've done my homework.
- i am confident the pinouts are identical (save the extra pin or two for the magnetic clutch on the supercharger), and existing pins on the W211 will correspond to those the C32 AMG ECU is expecting.
- i understand this is unchartered territory, but this is a relatively-uncontroversial clone.
