CD Magazine Stuck

Hi All,

The CD Magazine is stuck on my 2001 CLK W208 w/ Command. I have tried to push the eject button to no avail. I also tried to remove the fuse and see if that would work - but no cigar.

They Command gives a message that it is activating the CDC but nothing happens.

I did a search and couldn't find any other suggestions short of taking the changer apart..

Any other ideas? Suggestions? Should I see a dealer or an audio shop?

Thanks!

That happened to me before but in totally different circumstances. I removed the magazine of my CD changer and removed the entire CD changer itself because I wanted to sell it. My good friend pushed the magazine back in and we could not pull it out because it was unplugged and therefore had no power. I removed the outer cover of my cd changer and located a lock-lever spring and unlatched it and then the magazine popped out.

You have to be a little daring to do what I did though and I am pretty comfortable fiddling around with mechanical and electrical items.

good luck

Unless you are familiar working with small plastic gears and springs and don't mind the possibility of small parts flying all over the place I would suggest having a professional deal with it. In all likelihood you have a broken gear that needs to be replaced.

My folk had a electronics repair shop, here were the rates:
$50 per hour
$75 per hour if you watch
$125 per hour if you want to help
$275 per hour if you tried to fix it yourself first and then brought it here.

Whatever it is you do, there will be risks

There will always be risks, whatever it is you decide to do.

If you bring it to an MB dealer they will be able to fix your problem in 25 seconds. That is pretty much how long it takes the parts service fellow to type in an order for a new $850 CD changer. And do not even suggest they open it for you because they won't.

If you bring it to an audio specialist, it would take him about three minutes to fix your problem. That would be the amount of time your conversation would be as he convinces you to just buy a new one because it would be too expensive on an hourly basis to remove and check the analyze the problem with your CD changer.

So your last option is your first option. Check it yourself - like I said, pretty risky but you're pretty much out of choice anyway. At the end of the day, the changer might need to be changed if it is really screwed up so anything you do will cost you money. The upside, however with checking it yourself is that you get to pop out the CD changer and there will be no problems going forward.

Like I said, all these have risks involved (DISCLAIMER here on my side)!!!

Good luck and let us know....

there is another alternative - wait for steve to come and let him check it... but that would be next year.

As paxfo wrote, you will probably be "encouraged" to buy a new one to fix your problem (and in the process, not get your CDs back). So there's very little risk in taking it apart yourself, if you pay attention. If you get it apart, get the CDs out, and get it back together and it works again, you're set. If you get it apart, and it never goes back together again, you're where you were before: you need to buy a new changer. At least this way you got your CDs back.

(Or am I the only one who still buys CDs?)

Happenned to me too in January of this year. Took them very little time to replace it but they had to send the magazine and CD's back to Germany. Never did get my CD's back but the dealer covered the cost of me buying replacements.

Not necessarily true. We can fix them. It's just not always cost effective, especially if it is under warranty. We definitely get the magazine out for people who want their CDs back.
