iTrip for Ipod - hmm...

i purchased iTrip on Tuesday, to see if it works...

iTrip DOES work but static sound is very present. i do not know if i should return the item and just forget about using a FM transmitter device. i'm assuming Belkin and other products will be the same.

Try changing the FM frequency. I'm using 87.9 on mine (NYC area) and it works fine (I have iTrip mini for MiniPod). I use it in 04 E320 wagon. In 05 E500 I just play DVDs with MP3's. Much easier than iPod.

Not sure if you have done this already, bu try:

install and upload the iTrip Playlist to your iPod. Then all you have to do is find a frequency that has no reception, play that same frequency on your iPod, pause it half way through. Finally select another playlist that you want to listen to and it will start playing through the speakers.

This worked for me, although it took a while to find a station that was good enough.

I still think that iTrip sux though. i want a hardwired device that integrated 100% to the steering wheel....grrr!

I would HIGHLY recommend the Monster FM modulator over the iTrip. While Griffin Technology makes some pretty slick products, the iTrip isn't one of them. I've tried them both (the iTrip first) and it's no contest.

With the iTrip your frequency selector is within the iPod itself. Changing frequencies while driving is not only difficult, it's dangerous. The Monster uses a button on the device... very easy. Also, because the Monster is powered through your lighter, it's broadcast frequency is much stronger. Where I had static with the iTrip I've had nothing but clear reception with the Monster. Obviously, results will vary from location to location, but I've yet to hear anyone tout the iTrip over the Monster modulator.

Also, the Monster recharges your iPod... which is awesome...

There is a hardwired iPod device with controls integrated into the steering wheel

I had the iTrip and it worked perfectly for me. I had one before that (I believe it was a Belkin) because the iTrip was sold out, and it was absolute garbage. You think static is present with iTrip, I could barely hear the music with the other one. I had to keep moving it around in the car to get and sound at all.
