"basic " cell phone install and reception
Good news: The cradle install was pretty straightforward. Added bonus was that I didn't even needed to get it version coded. It worked right away without Star Diagnosis.
Bad News: Reception is bad. With the handset not plugged into the car, I get about 3-4 bars. With it plugged in it drops to 0-2 bars. What can i do to improve this? Someone suggested an antenna switch and i will try that next but any other suggestion? AM I going to need a compensator or an aftermarket booster and antenna. By default, is the telehpone antenna circuitry hooked up to anything?

"Someone suggested" ... it would help if we knew the sources as it makes a difference as to whether we can consider it credible. Your system already has an antenna switch in it, it is in the CP-HIGH.
You can also just add an antenna with the lead running from the cradle. This will give you the best reception. It's cheap and easy to do.

can you elaborate on the bottom paragraph. which lead? and what antenna ? i would definitely rather use the option that doesn't require removing the trunk panel.

If anyone is using the mb phone bulletin (from Paul's website), i connected the cable called "Portable" to the cable called "antenna" in the bulletin. Actually, once you have it open,it's straightforward. They are tthe only 2 cables that connect together.
