Dead comand 2.0
The display is black with no activity except the fan.
The fan seems to spin up and spin down a few times and then it stops.
Pressing the ON button will repeat the fan spin up/down cycle.
I tried the usual trick (on + * + #) but nothing.
It will accept a CD and will eject it on request.
We swaped out from a working unit the display and the CD drive.
This revealed there is no problem with them and the problem lies within the 'prozessor module'
Ideas anybody?
Nobody offer a way to revive it effortlessly so I took it appart and progammed externaly the flash chip.
After much work, the machine booted and asked for the upgrade CD. 20 minutes later the comand was back in operation with the MY01 software.
If somebody needs assistant in retrofiting comands to MB or other vehicles in Greece send me a PM.
My problem occured because of a failed download. Infact the problem was in the SH (graphic) board.
The solution was to dismantle the board, unsolder the flash and load the s/w that I have previously read from a working unit.
When it booted with my SH flash image, I was presented with the "assert" error screen indicating that the SH and MCM s/w were not indentical.
I was lucky enough and this comand was of the upgradable type, therfore the MY2001 CD completed my repair.
While doing the above I realised a few things:
These boxes run linux.
The blaupunkt MCM chip is made by axis communications (www.axis.com)
It is propably the ETRAX 100 (not in poduction anymore but similar to the 100LX)
The DNL files on the upgrade CD are not pure image dumps - they need some conversion before loaded with a chip programer directly to the chips.
The fourth letter of the DNL file name indicates the type of the image:
"G" goes into the SH - graphic board
"M" goes into the MCM chip
The "G" file contains the start up screen (MB logo)
I've seen some posts of people modifying the 'G' file to change the logo with their own.
There! I hope somebody finds the above usefull.
