ML320 - .00325 / 61%
ML350 - .00285 / 59%

Nothing really special on these.

Thanks Tarry,
Any info on the ML350 and the 30 month lease? Have the MF's changed after December 15 on any cars (esp E and ML class)?

Trunk money?

Hey Tarry (or anybody who might be able help),

First off, thanks for the breakdown of all the terms and money factors... very helpful!

Was curious though, when you see a special lease ad like the one I pasted below and it specifies a maximum amount the dealer can contribute, is this considered trunk money? Or is trunk money the same as manufacturer-to-dealer cash?

The reason I ask: We're interested in leasing an '08 ML350. The current special specifies that it's $549/mo + tax, based on $4404 due at signing, which includes a customer cap reduction of $3050. It also states that there is $1000 lease cash... does that go straight to the customer?

The ad goes on to state that the dealer may contribute up to $1430.80 towards the lease. I'm assuming that the numbers in the ad are assuming a cap reduction of $2430.80 total from the dealer (lease cash of $1000, plus full dealer contribution of $1430.80)??? Then, it assumes an additional customer cap redcution of $3050??

IMO, this is no more than a $500 over vehicle (at least in SoCal). Plus, I don't like to make cap reductions on leases, so I'm only gonna' pay drive offs.

I guess in a round-about way, I'm asking... could I negotiate a cap cost of say, $500 over invoice, and then have the dealer contribute the $1430.80 and get the $1000 lease cash that I'm assuming is subsidized by the manufacturer's captive finance company, and ultimately have the lease capped at around $2000 below invoice?

Hope I didn't confuse anyone? Sorry!

Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

Here's the ad:

$559 Monthly Payment
33 Month Term
$3050 Down Payment
NA Security Deposit
10000 Annual Mileage
Restrictions Lease is based on the 2008 ML 350 equipped with optional premium package P1, heated seats, and $1000 lease cash. Dealer may contribute up to $1430.80 towards the $559 monthly lease special.
Comments $4404 due at signing. Dealer participation may vary. Incentives and Rebates are provided subject to the terms of our Visitor Agreement.

Was told by a dealer in SoCal that the buy rate for the 33/mo lease is .00220. Your residual of 59% is spot on.

However, I believe the lease on the ML-350 is a regional promotion, and that rate not be available in some areas.

Nothing has changed from what I posted above.

The 30 month is .00285 with a 59% residual. The bank programs are still a much better deal.

Yea, I'm not seeing that at all. Make sure they are quoting MBC and not a bank rate.

Thanks, he might have quoted me on the GL after skimming through the rates? Any-whoooo, thanks for your help.

One more thing... was I right to assume that the $1430.85 is their "trunk" money? And the $1000 lease cash is like a rebate?

Sorry to be a pest, but if the money's available, I'd like to be aggressive in my negotiations.

An additional $1430 could be ~$45/mo off the payment!

It's really hard to tell where all the $$$$ are coming from. I would check with a couple different dealers to verify.

Any idea how you calculate 39 month, from this data, or you can't?

Also, what do you guys see dealers charge for acquisition fee. Mine did $1095. I argued and said MBF only charged $795, but they said they'd never change it. Is it not too uncommon to see the dealer up it to $1095?

Ouch!

Might be time to look at a different leasing source.

Which model is it?
